Sergeant First Class Daniel A. Romero, a Colorado native, was killed on 15 April 2002 during an explosive ordnance disposal mission involving the destruction of 107mm rockets near Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Romero enlisted in the Colorado Army National Guard in 1991 and volunteered for Airborne training in 1993. He was assigned to Company B, 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colorado. In 1995, Romero attended the Special Forces Qualification Course. In 2001, his unit was placed on active duty and deployed to Afghanistan.
At the time of his death, SFC Romero was the Communications Chief for Company B, 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
