Born in Cheverly, Maryland, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Thomas J. Gibbons died on 30 January 2003 as a result of an MH-60 Black Hawk crash near Bagram, Afghanistan.
Gibbons enlisted in the Army in 1990 as an Infantryman. In 1999 he graduated Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Alabama, became a UH-60 Black Hawk Pilot, and was assigned to 6th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After completing Green Platoon, he served with 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
CW3 Gibbons was deployed with 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment as a Fully Mission Qualified Pilot in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM at the time of his death.
