CW3 Mark S. O’Steen

A Virginia native, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Mark S. O’Steen died on 30 January 2003 as a result of an MH-60 Black Hawk crash near Bagram, Afghanistan.
O’Steen enlisted in the Army in 1985 as a Linguist. In 1990 he completed Warrant Officer Candidate School, Fort Rucker, Alabama, and was assigned as a UH-60 Pilot to Yongsan Garrison, Republic of Korea. He then joined 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as a Flight Instructor. After completing Green Platoon, O’Steen was assigned to 1st Battalion, 160th Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
CW3 O’Steen was deployed with 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment as a Fully Mission Qualified Pilot in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM at the time of his death.
