A native of Mansfield, Ohio, Sergeant Michael C. O’Neill died 21 November 2004, from injuries sustained while preparing for combat operations at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.
O’Neill enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in June 2001. He completed Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training, and the Basic Airborne Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, followed by the Ranger Indoctrination Program.
SGT O’Neill was assigned as a team leader in 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia, and was on his third deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM when he died.
