A native of Columbus, Georgia, Private John M. Henderson, Jr. died 4 August 2005, of wounds sustained when his unit was attacked while conducting a mounted combat patrol northeast of Jalalabad, Afghanistan, during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Henderson enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in December 2004 and completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He graduated from the Ranger Indoctrination Program in May 2005.
PV2 Henderson was assigned as a mortarman to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia, where he served until his death.
