A native of Battle Creek, Michigan, Staff Sergeant Michael A. Dickinson II died on 17 July 2006 in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, while supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

Dickinson joined the Army in 1998 as a Psychological Operations Specialist. He served in both the 6th and 9th Psychological Operations Battalions, 4th Psychological Operations Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

SSG Dickinson was assigned to 9th Psychological Operations Battalion when he sustained injuries from small arms fire after his dismounted patrol encountered enemy forces.
