A native of Vancouver, Washington, Staff Sergeant Ronald L. Paulsen died on 17 October 2006 in Tarmiya, Iraq.
Enlisting in the Washington Army National Guard in 1982, Paulsen completed training as a Material Storage and Handling Specialist. His many assignments included a deployment during Operations DESERT SHIELD/STORM. He was assigned to the Individual Ready Reserve in 1992. He was recalled to duty in the U.S. Army Reserve in 2005.
SSG Paulsen was assigned to 414th Civil Affairs Battalion, Utica, New York, when he was killed by an improvised explosive device while supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
