A native of Smithfield, Pennsylvania, Master Sergeant Arthur L. Lilley died on 15 June 2007 in Paktika Province, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Lilley enlisted in 1990 in the Army as an Infantryman and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Following service with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Camp Ederle, Italy, he volunteered for Special Forces. He completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in 1996.
MSG Lilley was assigned as a Team Sergeant in 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, when he was fatally wounded by enemy small arms fire.
