Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Staff Sergeant Robb L. Rolfing died on 30 June 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds received in combat operations.
Rolfing enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in 2003, and was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Following a deployment to Iraq, he volunteered for the Special Forces Qualification Course at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and graduated in 2005.
SSG Rolfing was assigned as an Engineer Sergeant in 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colorado, when he died in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
