A resident of Blanding, Utah, Sergeant First Class Nathan L. Winder died on 26 June 2007 in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq, when he was fatally wounded by enemy small arms fire.
Winder enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in 1993. After several infantry assignments, he graduated in 2006 from the Special Forces Qualification Course at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
SFC Winder was assigned as a Medical Sergeant in 2nd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Fort Lewis, Washington, when he died during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
