An Indiana native, Staff Sergeant Travis K. Hunsberger died 27 June 2008 in Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered by an improvised explosive device.
Hunsberger enlisted in the Army in June 2004 as a Special Forces Candidate, and attended One Station Unit Training, and the Basic Airborne Course, at Fort Benning, Georgia. He graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
SSG Hunsberger was assigned as a Communications Sergeant in 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group at the time of his death. He was supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
