A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Staff Sergeant Ryan D. Maseth died 2 January 2008 in Baghdad, Iraq.

Maseth enlisted as an Infantryman in the Army in 2001 and completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. After serving six years as an Infantryman, he graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

SSG Maseth was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, when he died of injuries from a non-combat accident while supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
