MSG David L. Hurt

A native of Oak Park, Illinois, Master Sergeant David L. Hurt died on 20 February 2009 in Khordi, Afghanistan, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.
Hurt enlisted in the Army as a Combat Engineer in November 1992. He was assigned to 307th Engineer Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and later served in 37th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, Fort Bragg. He graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in May 2000 and was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, as an Engineer Sergeant. Hurt served as a Small Group Basic Leader at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Fort Bragg.
MSG Hurt was serving as a Team Operations Sergeant assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group when he was killed while supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
