SGT Roberto D. Sanchez

A longtime resident of Satellite Beach, Florida, Sergeant Roberto D. Sanchez died on 1 October 2009 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.
Sanchez enlisted in the Army in July 2004 and completed his Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training, and the Basic Airborne Course, at Fort Benning, Georgia. Following graduation from the Ranger Indoctrination Program he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, where he served as an automatic rifleman.
SGT Sanchez was serving as a team leader in 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment when he was killed supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He had completed three deployments to Iraq and was on his second to Afghanistan.
