SFC Severin W. Summers III

A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Sergeant First Class Severin W. Summers III was killed on 2 August 2009 in Qole Gerdsar, Afghanistan, by an improvised explosive device.
Summers enlisted in the Army in 1989 as an Infantryman and attended Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He later joined the Mississippi Army National Guard. In 2002 he graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He joined the 20th Special Forces Group, Birmingham, Alabama.
SFC Summers was assigned as an Engineer Sergeant in Company C, 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group, Camp McCain, Mississippi, when he was killed. He was supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
