A native of Roseburg, Oregon, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Douglas M. Vose III was killed on 29 July 2009 in Kabul Province, Afghanistan, by small arms fire.

Vose enlisted in the Army in April 1989 as a Transportation Specialist. He graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 1999 and was assigned as a Communications Sergeant in 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colorado. He later served in 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Stuttgart, Germany. In 2006, he completed the Warrant Officer Basic Course.

CW2 Vose was serving as an Assistant Detachment Commander in 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group when he was killed. He was supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
