A native of Merced, California, Sergeant First Class David J. Hartman was killed on 3 February 2010 in Timagara, Pakistan, by an improvised explosive device. He was supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Hartman enlisted in the Army Signal Corps in 2000. He served in a variety of positions in the 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas, and 50th Signal Battalion, XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He graduated from the Civil Affairs Qualification Course at the U.S Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
SFC Hartman was serving as Team Sergeant for Civil Affairs Team 622, 96th Civil Affairs Battalion, 95th Civil Affairs Brigade, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, when he was killed.
