A native of Salinas, California, Specialist Ricardo Cerros, Jr. died 8 October 2011, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations in Logar Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Cerros enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in July 2010. He served for eight months with 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
SPC Cerros graduated from the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program in March 2011 and was assigned as a rifleman to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, where he served until his death.
