A native of Alliance, Ohio, First Lieutenant Ashley I. White died on 22 October 2011 of wounds sustained from the detonation of an improvised explosive device while her unit was conducting combat operations in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
On graduating from Kent State University, White accepted a commission in the Army as a Medical Service Corps Officer in 2009. She served in the 230th Brigade Support Battalion, 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, North Carolina Army National Guard.
1LT White was serving as a Cultural Support Team member attached to a Joint Special Operations Task Force at the time of her death.
