A native of San Jose, Costa Rica, Staff Sergeant Andrew T. Britton-Mihalo died 25 April 2012, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Britton-Mihalo enlisted in the Army as a Special Forces Candidate in 2005. After completing his Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to the 1st Special Warfare Training Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
SSG Britton-Mihalo graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2008 and was assigned as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant to 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, where he served until his death.
