A native of Candler, North Carolina, Staff Sergeant Brandon F. Eggleston died 26 April 2012, of wounds sustained from the detonation of an improvised explosive device while his unit was conducting combat operations in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Eggleston enlisted in the Army as a Special Forces Candidate in July 2006. After completing his Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to the 1st Special Warfare Training Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
SSG Eggleston graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in March 2009 and was assigned as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant to 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served until his death.
