A native of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Warrant Officer 1 Sean W. Mullen died 2 June 2013, of wounds sustained from the detonation of an improvised explosive device while his unit was conducting combat operations in Lashkar Gah, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Mullen enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in November 2005. After completing his Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
WO1 Mullen graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in April 2007 and was assigned as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant to 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Mullen graduated from the Special Forces Warrant Officer Course in November 2012 and returned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, where he served until his death.
