SGT Joseph M. Peters

A native of Springfield, Missouri, Sergeant Joseph M. Peters died 6 October 2013, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device while his unit was conducting combat operations in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Peters enlisted in the Army as a Human Intelligence Collector in 2007. After completing his Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training, he was assigned to the 210th Military Intelligence Company, and then 14th Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
SGT Peters later reclassified as an Army Criminal Investigations Specialist and was assigned to the 286th Military Police Detachment, Vicenza, Italy. He was attached to a Joint Special Operations Task Force at the time of his death.
