A native of Crestview, Florida, Sergeant First Class Andrew T. Weathers died 30 September 2014, of wounds sustained from small arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Weathers enlisted in the Army as a Medium Helicopter Repairer in 2003. After completing his Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, he was assigned to the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
SFC Weathers graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2010 and was initially assigned as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant to 4th Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. He was later assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, where he was serving at the time of his death.
