A resident of Bloomington, Illinois, Sergeant Joshua P. Rodgers was killed by small arms fire on 27 April 2017 in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.
Rodgers enlisted in the Army in August 2013 as an Infantryman. After completing Infantry One Station Unit Training, Airborne, and Ranger training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. SGT Rodgers had two prior deployments to Afghanistan in 2014 and 2016.
SGT Rodgers was a Ranger Team Leader in 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, at the time of his death.
