A native of Kettering, Ohio, Sergeant Cameron H. Thomas was killed by small arms fire on 27 April 2017 in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.
Thomas enlisted in the Army in February 2012 as an Infantryman. After completing Infantry One Station Unit Training, Airborne, and Ranger training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He had two previous deployments to Afghanistan during 2012 and 2014.
SGT Thomas was a Sniper in 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, at the time of his death.
