A resident of Massachusetts, Sergeant First Class Eric M. Emond died on 27 November 2018 from wounds sustained in action while supporting Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan.
Emond enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1997 and served as an infantryman until 2004. He joined the West Virginia Army National Guard in 2005, serving in 19th Special Forces Group, and graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2006. SFC Emond transitioned to active duty in 2014, and was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, serving as a Special Forces Senior Weapons Sergeant. He deployed seven times to include supporting Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and OCTAVE SHIELD.
SFC Emond was assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group when he was fatally struck by an enemy improvised explosive device.
