A native of Westwood, New Jersey, Sergeant First Class Michael J. Goble was killed in action on 23 December 2019 while supporting Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL in Kunduz Province, Afghanistan.
Goble enlisted in the Army as a Special Forces Candidate in 2004. After completing Infantry One Station Unit Training and Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia, he attended the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He completed the course in 2007, and was assigned as a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant in 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. Goble’s deployments included Argentina, Guatemala, Colombia, Republic of Korea, and twice in support of Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.
SFC Goble was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group as an Operations and Intelligence Sergeant when he was fatally wounded during combat operations.
