A native of Greenbrier, Tennessee, Sergeant First Class Jeremy W. Griffin was killed in action on 16 September 2019 while supporting Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL in Wardak Province, Afghanistan.
Griffin enlisted in the Army as a Signals Intelligence Analyst in 2004. After completing Basic Combat, Language, and Advanced Individual Training, he served with the 7th Special Forces Group and 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2014 and was assigned as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant in 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Griffin’s deployments included the Republic of Korea and Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.
SFC Griffin was serving as an Operations and Intelligence Sergeant in 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, when he was fatally wounded by enemy small arms fire during combat operations.
