SGM James G. Sartor

A native of Teague, Texas, Sergeant Major James G. Sartor died on 13 July 2019 from wounds received in action while supporting Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL in Faryab Province, Afghanistan.
Sartor enlisted in the Army in 2001. After completing Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he served as an Infantryman in the 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia. He completed the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in 2005, and was assigned as a Special Forces Engineer Sergeant to 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colorado. In 2014 he was assigned to Special Operations Command Europe, Patch Barracks, Germany. He returned to 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group in 2017. Sartor deployed seven times in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.
SGM Sartor was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group when he was fatally wounded by enemy small arms fire.
