Chief Warrant Officer Three Stephen R. Dwyer, Jr. died 10 November 2023 when his MH-60M Black Hawk helicopter crashed in the Mediterranean Sea.
CW3 Dwyer graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2009, commissioning as a Field Artillery Officer. From 2010-2016, he served as a Fire Support Officer, Platoon Leader, Assistant Operations Officer, and Battery Commander in the 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas (Fort Cavazos since 2023). Following a tour at West Point, New York, Dwyer became a Warrant Officer and attended flight school. In 2018, he graduated as a UH 72A /UH-60 Black Hawk Pilot. Following flight school, he served three years in the 101st Combat Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. In 2022, he favorably assessed for the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) at Fort Campbell, completing Officer Green Platoon in 2023. He was assigned as an MH-60M Direct Action Penetrator Pilot in Company C, 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR. During his career, he deployed multiple times to Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere in support of national security objectives.
CW3 Dwyer was serving as Mission Planner for 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR at the time of his death.
