SFC Sean K. Mitchell

A native of Monterey, California, Sergeant First Class Sean K. Mitchell died on 7 July 2007 in Kidal, Mali, while conducting training as part of the Trans-Sahara Counter-Terrorism Partnership.
Mitchell enlisted in the Army as a Cryptologic Linguist in 1997. He attended the Defense Language Institute Basic Russian Course at the Presidio of Monterey, California, and completed Advanced Individual Training at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas. He was later assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group, Fort Carson, Colorado.
SFC Mitchell was assigned as a team leader for the Military Intelligence Detachment in 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group, Stuttgart, Germany, when he was fatally wounded while supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM-TRANS-SAHARA.
